LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
LG counter-depth refrigerators are small and provide plenty of space. They're also priced more affordably than conventional-depth French door refrigerators and remove the necessity for a separate, smaller under-counter freezer. The LG Smart Mirror InstaView Counter-Depth Refrigerator (LMWC23626S) is a refrigerator that has the capacity of a standard fridge in a sleek and modern design, isn't an exception. It also has an internal dispenser that allows for easy access to drinking water.
This model's exterior showcases a fingerprint-resistant stainless steel finish and a mirrored InstaView panel that adds to the modern look of the interior. The door bins have plenty of space and the top shelf can be folded down to create a half depth shelf that can accommodate larger items. A set of crisper drawers is in the lower part of the refrigerator and the full-width deli drawer can be used for meat or produce.
The refrigerator has a recessed freezer on the back wall. This reduces space and allows you to store more bags of ice. The refrigerator is equipped with a door cooling system that makes use of vents on the freezer and fridge door to let cold air into. It helps prevent hot spots and maintains the temperature of the refrigerator.
This LG refrigerator was a standout in our tests, and comes with plenty of space to ensure that your family is well-fed however, it has some quirks that we found annoying. The freezer drawers are not as cold as we'd like. The middle drawer reached 41 degrees during our highest usage test which is hot enough for ice cream and other frozen food items. The temperature in the rest of your freezer remained at around 36 degrees.
The doors of the refrigerator also have handles with sunken handles that are difficult for shorter people to close. It may seem like a minor issue however, we prefer front mounted handles on refrigerators to make them easier to open and shut.
The fridge is expensive, but it's well worth it for anyone who wants an ultra-sleek look in their kitchen. This refrigerator is ideal for those looking to upgrade their current refrigerator or those who are building new homes and want a seamless kitchen.
Samsung Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
The RF23M8090SG is Samsung's latest and most elegant counter-depth French door fridge, priced at $4,200. It's a good-looking model that boasts useful features like an autofill water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It also performed well during our cooling test, but we don't like the gimmicky handles or the flimsy crisper bins.
Bespoke is an option that makes the RF23M8090SG stand out. It allows you to personalize your refrigerator using removable colored panels. There are 11 different colors including soft pastels, bolder hues and four metallic finishes. These panels can be customized to include text or photos. This will make the fridge more personal and can match your Rick Owens dress, Andy Warhol banana neon or tie-dye Crocs.
The LED lighting can be changed to a different color, which is a great feature. And the refrigerator's interior has a smart finish that helps reduce smudges and makes cleaning easier. The only flaws that really bother the RF23M8090SG are its cramped beverage center, and a little learning curve to open the door-indoor feature which houses a water dispenser as well as an ice maker. It is important to locate the lever on the underside halfway down the door. Once you find it the second door opens up inside the fridge, which houses the docking station for the pitcher as well as the water dispenser.
The 6.8 cubic feet freezer compartment is big enough to store plenty of frozen food. It also comes with the slide-out drawer, which allows you to access the food you need without having to open the entire compartment. There's also a butter-bin-style compartment in the freezer to allow for easy storage of small items, as well as a large capacity drawer that can hold larger frozen items. The drawer can be locked with the use of a password to keep unwanted guests out, and it includes an attractive LED light so you can see the contents at a glance. The freezer is also able to monitor energy usage and help you cut your energy consumption with the smart-enabled SmartThings Energy mode.

If you want the convenience of this style without the height, a counter-depth refrigerator is the way to go. This model from Frigidaire that we've extensively tested and has received an above average rating in our ratings because of its reasonable price and thoughtful features like an adjustable temperature drawer.
But it also has a few minor issues. Our tests show that the FGHB2866PF can get very hot significantly in the freezer and become uncomfortable hot in the most inner shelves of the refrigerator. Our heat maps show how temperature fluctuates minute-by-minute. The orange area on the upper right, which represents the butter bin, is especially warm for most of our testing period. It may not appear to be a problem at first however, the fridge is spending most of the time above 32 degrees.
It's also worth noting that the FGHB2866PF isn't an Energy Star-certified model. This could be a factor for some buyers. The issue is that this fridge isn't the best. It lacks advanced features and durable construction which makes it difficult to recommend it over better options at this price point.

It's a great choice, with a brushed-finish that looks attractive and is resistant against smudges. However, french door fridge freezer doesn't offer much to differentiate itself from competitors that are more feature-rich and more affordable.
